I have been involved in training for about 20 years,
years in which
I have had the fortune to meet many people and this experience has
allowed me to understand the importance of training
intended as a process and not as a “product”.
For this reason, I prefer to agree and analyze the training needs of those
who request my intervention in a personalized way, a significant contribution comes from Carl Rogers who expressed in his text “Freedom to
learn” some
basic concepts for education:
Human beings are endowed with a natural
tendency to know, understand and learn (cognitive
motivation).
Learning is truly meaningful when
the “content” is experienced by the student as relevant to the
satisfaction of their needs and the realization of their personal
goals.
Learning that implies a change in
self-perception and attitudes is perceived as a threat
and tends to arouse resistance.
When external threats are minimized, learning occurs more easily and
effectively.
Meaningful learning arises
from experience and action: when the student is an active part of the teaching-learning process.
Self-promoted and self-managed learning,
that which involves feelings as well as intellect, is the most
lasting and pervasive.
The most useful learning in the current
socio-cultural context is that which concerns the
learning process itself, being constantly open to experience and
integrating the process of change.
The training includes, therefore, growth, development and empowerment
of the individual along with the acquisition of knowledge and skills. The training
process promotes the autonomy of the individual and
increases personal power and responsibility.
